One a penny, two a penny
Hot Cross Buns!
Have you ever heard that song?
I've heard it several times throughout my life.
I've played it on the piano, sax, and recorder.
I've sang it to my children,
and
they've sang it to me.
Most recently
I've been hearing it from
the children as they practice their
instruments.
Life coming full circle.
Did you know that today is
National Hot Cross Bun Day?
So what does someone
who's agreed to celebrate a
national holiday everyday
do to celebrate such a time as this?
Why they make hot cross buns of course!
And no, they can't do it the easy way...
This has got to be the real deal Holyfield...
(yes, I just wrote that, be impressed by my nerdyness)
They've got to take on something they've never taken on before
something like baking from scratch...
using yeast and all that jazz...
and a recipe like
this one
because we all know
Martha doesn't play when it comes to
all things domestic
to include baking.
&
of course
there are pictures involved.
Check it out.
The ingredients...
Do y'all see that? It's yeast. It takes forever
even though it says rapid rise.
Never trust a label. Haha!
I got to use the hand mixer
and
it was cause for me to
name off reasons why we need a
bowl mixer
with a
dough attachment
Reason A? Because Martha says so... LOL
Somehow I ended up with flour everywhere
and no one is fessing up to the handprint,
although I'm fairly sure I know who the culprit is.
Quite possibly my favorite picture,
I love it so much. I really enjoy spending time with them...
And they really seemed to love baking.
I see much more of it in our future...
sans yeast...
This guy excited about them FINALLY going in the oven
Hooray!!!!
HOT CROSS BUNS
And.... Everyone was happy!
We enjoyed celebrating
National Hot Crossed Buns Day
and
will probably add it to the calender from now on
even though I'm not a fan of yeast...
Who knows, maybe it'll grow on me...
Not literally, but...
Hahaha... You know what I mean.
Okay... change of subject.
It was also
National Make Your Bed Day
and
today was also a day of remembrance.
All of our lives were forever changed
that fateful day in September.
We will
Never Forget.

Tomorrow's Holidays?
National Video Games Day
National Chocolate Milkshake Day...
One of these I don't mind celebrating...
The other... well you'll have to come back to see how we work it out.
Goodnight Friends!

I do remember that song. It was the first song I learned on the recorder LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'm bookmarking this recipe. I love hot cross buns and sadly noone in my family shares my love for the same! :(
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a very good recipe right there. Almost like cinnamon buns but with a twist in them. They look delicious! Nice bed making skills husband! lol
ReplyDeleteOMG those buns look so good. I love that everyday has something to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteI used to have to play that song on the piano when my parents forced me to take lessons - I so hated the piano. I would much rather bake them - they look delicious!
ReplyDeleteMy mother uses to sing that song all the time. Well, more like spoken word. LOL We cross a lot of our breads and rolls. It's an Irish tradition to bless our bread.
ReplyDeleteYou really had flour everywhere! What a great way to spend time with the kids. I don't know the song I am going to find it
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun celebration. The hot cross buns look great and so does the handprint lol
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun way to honor Hot Cross Buns day! I now have the memory of my kids screeching that song out on their recorders lol.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Looks like the entire family had fun with that. I'll have to remember this for next year.
ReplyDeleteI love adding the song along with preparing the recipe. Hot Cross Buns are an old family favorite of ours.
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun making them with the family. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the TB rays shirt! Anyway, looks like a fun idea !
ReplyDeleteLove the handprint picture! Looks like you had a great day celebrating hot cross buns days with your kids in the kitchen.
ReplyDeletelove that you have a husband that makes the bed! Mine does too. If nothing else, make your bed. It sets your day off right and gets you in that state of organization, LOL. My mother taught us that. I loved the Hot Cross Buns too!
ReplyDeleteI have never made these before. I think I need to make them. Recipe?
ReplyDeleteI've never known what Hot Cross Buns looked like, so thank you for solving that mystery!
ReplyDeleteI am loving your national days posts! Those buns came out nice! I can't wait to see what you do for Chocolate Milkshake day!
ReplyDeleteNow that nursery rhyme will be stuck in my head all day. Lol. The buns look great!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to make hot cross buns!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for the bed, it doesn't matter if it's a national day or not, no way my husband would make a bed ever. It's not in his genetic makeup. ;)
The hot cross buns look wonderful, and I don't think I'd stop at one. I'm not sure that's a rhyme I ever really learned well for some reason.
ReplyDeleteha ha lol I also hate working with yeast. I thinks its an impatient issue with me. lol and of course I am also the one who gets flour everywhere! Looks like you guys were having though and that's all that counts!!
