Creme-Filled Doughnut Day & A Recipe

Is this national day not hilarious?
No?
Then you must be serious about your doughnuts. Haha!

No but really,
does one ever need an excuse to have a
 creme-filled doughnut
or a doughnut in general?

I didn't think so...

Well, today was super busy,
we had church,
house cleaning,
and baseball to contend with,
so by the time I got to the doughnut spot
that was recommended to me,
it was closed!
Talk about bummed out...
But we did the next best thing
and headed over to our local
Dunkin' Donuts...

Speaking of donuts...
Does anyone know the correct spelling?
Is it doughnuts or donuts?
Both?
I always feel as if I'm spelling it wrong...
but I digress.

So, while at Dunkin'
I picked up 3 creme-filled doughnuts
and then eagerly headed home.

I chose pumpkin pie, chocolate, and Bavarian creme!

DOUGHNUTS!!!!

The kids really enjoyed today
(especially the pumpkin pie doughnut)
and so did I...
I'm just not going to enjoy the extra
workouts that this little undertaking of mine
is going to cost me...
Case in point: I'm baking 3 times this upcoming week...
Yeah. LOL! Stay tuned for that.

Tomorrow's national days are:
National Felt Hat Day
National Google.com Day

And the real reason you returned to me
THE RECIPE!
Haha....

Chunky Cheddar Cheese Chowder

Ingredients
1/4 Cup Butter or Margarine
1 small onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
1 celery rib, chopped
1/2 small red or green bell pepper (they used green), chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken broth
2 cups milk
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
(they used mild cheese, but it would be just as good with sharp)
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper
6 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled

Directions
 1. Melt  butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat;
stir in onion,
carrot, celery, bell pepper, and garlic.
Saute 5 minutes or until mixture is tender and smells good.

2. Add flour; cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Stir in chicken broth and milk; cook over medium heat 5 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened and bubbly.

3. Add shredded cheese, salt, and pepper, stirring until cheese melts and mixture is smooth.
Bowl the chowder and top with bacon.
(I added chives and Old Bay to mine)
Enjoy!

This makes around 7 cups chowder.

See ya tomorrow!

  12. That soup sounds delicious and I can't wait to try it out for myself! The doughnut (not sure of the spelling either) but I like powdered or glazed and do not like filling in mine, I know that makes me weird. My husband tells me that all the time!
